With the warm weather the last couple weeks, peaches and plums are
starting to enter bud break. They will probably have blooms in 7 to 10
days. Just hope we don't have a late freeze. We recorded 880 chill hours
between mid November and the end of February … most of our peaches and
plums needed 700 to 800 hours.
Blackberries are beginning to show leaf emergence. We planted another
300-ft. row of blackberries in January. These baby plants are also
putting on leaves. We had to water plants in February due to drouth
conditions.
We're still pruning peach and plum trees. First application of
fertilizer will be made in mid to late March. We need rain. Our total
rainfall for the year so far is 7.98 in.
First bluebonnets in our front yard are showing up … and of course lots
of "yellow top" or "squaw weed" in the yard and pasture.
Please feel free to visit our orchard any time … email or call us if you
have questions. Visit this web site for future updates.
