Berry Patch Update….May 21, 2025
Blackberry picking time has finally arrived!
The Berry patch will have a "Soft Opening" for u-pick during Memorial Day weekend on Saturday, May 24th and Monday, May 26th from 8 a.m. until picked out (probably around 11 or noon). We will have berries to pick, but just not as many as later in the season. So, if you want a lot of berries, or if you're traveling a good distance, please call before coming.
Call or text 903-208-0827 (our farm number) or 979-255-3181.
Although we're not open for u-pick, we will have some Pre-Picked Blackberries available on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday this week, while supplies last. Please call or text us to reserve yours and arrange a time to pick them up.
PLEASE NOTE: The first week after Memorial Day, we WILL NOT be open every day. Please check our web site www.huebnerberrypatch.com for dates and times we'll be open for picking, or call before you come out.
By June 3rd, our regular days to be open will be Tuesday through Saturday from 8 am to 5 pm or picked out. However, this may change due to berry availability. The farm will be closed on Sundays and Mondays.
The best picking time is between 8 a.m. and 12 noon. Berries have the highest sugar content in the morning hours. Plus, it's much more pleasant for the pickers!
As last year, a picking scale of 1-10 will be used to indicate the availability of ripe berries. With a "1" being a light number of berries being available, and a "10" indicating a large number being ready to pick. The picking score for the first week will be a 1-2. If you want a lot of berries for making jelly…you may want to wait a week to 10 days to come out.
One gallon picking containers will be provided…they will hold 4 to 5 pounds. We also have "kid-sized" buckets that hold about half that much. The availability of Pre-Picked Berries will vary daily. Please call or check the website. You can email, text or call us to order pre-picked berries.
Our berry prices have not changed -- U-Pick berries will be $4.00 per lb. Pre-Picked berries will be $6.50 per quart (1 lb.).
Care of Your Blackberries: If it will be more than a hour before you can place your berries in refrigeration after leaving the farm…transport your berries in an ice chest with cold packs or a plastic bag with ice cubes. Carole can give you directions on freezing the berries once you get them home. Of course, you may have eaten them all before then!
When you come to pick, wear closed toe shoes…flip flops not recommended. Wear a hat or cap, sunscreen and bring water.
We accept cash, credit and debit cards, and in-county checks. Due to increased credit card fees…..there will be a 3% courtesy fee on credit card transactions.
Carole has been busy making her great tasting jellies and jams. All the fruit ingredients come from our farm. This year's flavors include Blackberry Jelly, Spooky Berry Jelly and Peach Jam. She also hopes to have some Blackberry Syrup and Muscadine Jelly ready soon.
From our local Lone Star Olive Ranch the following infused olive oils will be available: Roasted Garlic, Garlic, Habanero, Jalapeno, Lemon, & more.
Again this year we will also have local honey from Nathan Krueger," Hey Honey!" in two different sizes.
Carole will also have a lot of great recipes for preparing those sweet berries. Some of these are on our web site.
Peaches…..we may have a few peaches in Mid to late June. Due to the drought and severe weather conditions the last couple of years, we only have a few producing trees. We will keep you updated.
The number of ripe berries we will have on any given day will vary … so please call, text or check our website before you come out – especially the first week – or if you're coming a long distance.
Our website (www.huebnerberrypatch.com) will have a lot more information about our farm … including directions to the farm and contact information.
Sorry, Pets are Not Allowed in the orchard. Please watch for washed out gopher runs in the orchard.
Please drive slowly on our Private Road -- It is rough. Also watch for other traffic.
We are very excited about this year and looking forward to providing our customers with a high quality, sweet fresh blackberries for their enjoyment.
Hope to see you soon
Steve and Carole Huebner
