May 6, 2022 Update
Where has Spring gone? We're getting ready for Mothers Day along with record-setting heat … predicted 98 degrees on Sunday.
We know everyone is anxious about the beginning of blackberry season, and so are we. Walking our berry rows, we see lots of green berries. From the formation of green berries to ripe berries (black or dull black) is about 25 to 30 days.
Compared to 2021, our blackberries and peaches seem to be 10 days to 2 weeks later in all stages of leafing out, blooming and fruit set. The rain in late April and early May have really given our fruit crops a boost. However, the hail storm of April 30th did knock off some leaves and fruit from our peaches and plum. We don't know the extent of the damage yet. We don't know how many fruit were bruised, or if they'll fall off later. Our berries did not seem to be damaged – only some leaves and twigs knocked off.
Carole is busy getting the shop ready. She is in the process of making her jellies and jams, and if time permits some blackberry syrup.
Other items in the shop will include several flavors of olive oil (including some new ones) from the Lone Star Olive Ranch in Madison County. Local honey will also be available to our customers.
